Optimised Ground Water Level Management through Efficient Well Servicing

Uwe Schmitz Habben, LINEG

Due to land use activities on top ground surface, LINEG manages groundwater levels to monitor water quality and water level conditions. Hereunto, an extensive knowledge in well management is essential for which LINEG operates a wide spread net of groundwater monitoring points, comprising some 2,259 observation wells, monitoring approx. 346 distinct groundwater levels. At present seventy five vertical wells and five horizontal wells are operated for the purpose of the ‘Groundwater Management Programme’. The optimised operation of those wells implies an efficient service. This comprises the continued survey and interpretation of data and regular as-is state analyses (pumping test / TV-diagnosis) to the point of complex services such as regeneration measures, inline sanitation etc. Local conditions demand for particular service requirements. Such local conditions comprise specific well ageing phenomena due to past pollutions and structural alterations related to mining operations. Since years, LINEG continuous activities are dedicated best practise well operation in order to optimise well lifetime cycles and to assure economic targets.
