NGWA Conference - Hydrology and Water Quality in the Southwest

Albuquerque, NM
February 23-24, 2016

This National Ground Water Association (NGWA) regional conference focuses on the southwest states of Arizona, California, New Mexico, Texas, Utah, and Nevada where population growth, droughts, agriculture, mining, and oil and gas development are intensifying interest in groundwater availability and quality. Water is scarce and recharge rates are low in much of the region. The purpose of this conference is to bring together scientists, engineers, water managers, and others with an interest in the water resources of these states to share experiences and successes in addressing the region's groundwater quantity, quality, and interconnections with surface-water resources. Abstracts are solicited on all aspects related to groundwater in these states, including, but not limited to:

  • Groundwater sustainability
  • Groundwater management, policy, and regulations
  • Effects of oil and gas development on groundwater availability and quality
  • Groundwater and mining
  • Surface-water/groundwater interaction
  • Native American issues
  • Groundwater education and outreach
  • Managed aquifer recharge
  • Drought resilience/water availability/scarcity, particularly considering climate change
  • Exempt well issues
  • Monitoring and data management
  • Use and characterization of saline groundwater
  • Arsenic and other naturally occurring contaminants
  • Salinity and nitrate
  • Pesticides and agricultural runoff
  • Emerging contaminants
