Ground Water Resource Evaluation and Allocation Through Applied Numerical Modeling - Topical Session, 2.0 CEPs
Ground water is a resource of increasing importance as demand for fresh water rises in response to economic and population growth. Whether an area is water-rich or water-poor, numerical models are valuable tools in the quantitative evaluation of the availability, vulnerability, and sustainability of ground water resources. The proper application of numerical ground water modeling provides valuable insights into the ground water flow system being evaluated and provides the user with methods for understanding the impacts of future development. In many areas, ground water models are used by regulatory personnel to allocate water resources based on existing and projected usage data. These agencies often maintain geographic information systems that house data that are routinely used by modelers to construct, calibrate, and perform predictive simulations. This session will present case studies on sources of data, construction, and use of numerical models in evaluating and allocating ground water resources.
