Louisiana's Ground Water: Securing Our Economic Future with Public Ground Water Policy - Workshop, 1 CEP
Readily available ground water of high quality is essential for economic development and expansion. Decline in the availability and quality of ground water in many regions is the result of poor management of ground water resources. The US needs comprehensive ground water use policies at the federal and state levels to ensure continued economic development and expansion. Louisiana is suffering from declining availability of quality fresh water as industries, agriculture, and municipalities continue to consume ground water. Several fresh water aquifers throughout the state have developed problems. Decreaing aquifer pressure, or water level decline, is the main common problem. The rate of consumption has outpaced the reate of recharge for several decades. The purpose of this workshop is to discuss the need for a comprehensive ground water policy and explore the basic tenets of a policy that is rational, fair, and protective.
