As a normal process of operating wells microbial water quality often deteriorates. The deterioration results from biofouling associated with natural bacteria. Fluctuations of bacterial numbers results from random detachment of normally attached bacteria. These random detachments can also include total coliforms resulting in faliure in bacterial tests. Consistent water quiality has been maintained in many wells by keeping the water well environmnet clean on a periodic basis.
