Nanotechnology in the Environment: Clean Water from Small Materials

Thursday, December 4, 2008: 3:00 p.m.-4:30 p.m.
N231/233 (Las Vegas Convention Center)
Learn how and why nanotechnology, the science of matter on the atomic scale, offers much promise for solving difficult environmental problems, including the challenge of providing clean and safe water to the world’s citizens. In this workshop, you will see how studies of the biological properties of both systems are essential for developing their applications in environmental technology. Characterization of the differential toxicology of these materials permits a correlation between nanoscale structure and biological impact. Armed with this information, ways to design nanoenabled technologies that are “safe by design” can be developed.
