Large groundwater investigations are time and resource intensive. Replacing generally accepted materials and procedures, such as Teflon-lined tubing or complete parameter sampling, will require systemic change. However, there are a number of changes which can easily be made that may add up to significant reductions in time and resources. Some examples are bulking IDW, utilizing local POTWs for non-hazardous water disposal, passive samplers, and phased investigations utilizing the Triad approach. This presentation will discuss the carbon and resource reductions accomplished at various sites by utilizing these techniques. Also, the presentation will make recommendations for areas where additional carbon and resources may be saved by updating default investigation procedures.
