Total Water Management on the Barrier Island Complex, Currituck County, North Carolina

Tuesday, December 7, 2010: 12:45 p.m.-2:45 p.m.
N117 (Las Vegas Convention Center)
The Currituck Outer Banks, North Carolina, obtains water from the brackish Upper Yorktown Aquifer, resulting in imbalance of water leading to flooding in low areas. In this workshop, you will hear discussions on the solution and an engineered hydrologic budget. The solution considers “Total Water Management” consisting of all groundwater, wastewater, reclaimed water, and stormwater components. An engineered hydrologic budget will use the groundwater from the Upper Yorktown Aquifer, the surficial aquifer, water reuse, artificial recharge, ASAR, and agronomic enhancements to provide sustainability.
