Lost Afghanistan

Wednesday, December 8, 2010: 8:00 a.m.-9:00 a.m.
N232 (Las Vegas Convention Center)
You will hear a long-time NGWA member’s perspective of his trips to Afghanistan in the 1970s working on the engineering geology and hydrogeology of the Kajaki Dam. Afghanistan then was a peaceful country and an exotic tourist destination. You will visit Kabul, Kandahar, and the Kajakai Dam and Reservoir via a presentation and narration. You will travel to Bamiyan to see the Great Buddhas, the biggest tourist attraction in the country, destroyed by the Taliban in March 2001—lost Afghanistan indeed. The presentation will include vintage photographs of Afghanistan i the 1950's and 1960's.
