2015 NGWA Conference on Groundwater in Fractured Rock

Burlington, VT
September 28-29, 2015
Considerable progress has been made in characterizing and remediating groundwater in fractured rock environments but much work remains to be done. This NGWA Conference on Groundwater in Fractured Rock is intended to provide a synopsis on the use of innovative techniques, cutting edge research on the topic, and lessons learned from practical experience. The conference solicits abstracts on any aspect of fractured rock hydrogeology (water quantity and quality), including those addressing:

  • Understanding the geologic framework
  • Mass discharge/mass flux in fractured rock
  • Vertical and horizontal plume characterization
  • Heterogeneity – What level of detail is needed for decision-making?
  • Characterizing flow and contaminant transport properties
  • Karst flow and contaminant transport properties
  • State of the art in groundwater remediation in fractured rock
  • Monitoring remediation effectiveness
  • High-resolution characterization in fractured rock
  • Alternative remediation end points for fractured rock sites
  • Groundwater supply protection
  • Pathogens in source water supply
  • Arsenic and other natural contaminants in fractured rock
  • Role of borehole geophysics in fractured rock characterization
  • Hydrogeophysical testing
  • Groundwater modeling
  • Combined remediation approaches
  • Emerging contaminants in fractured rock
  • Role of geochemistry in characterizing fractured rock settings
  • Biotic and abiotic degradation in the rock matrix
  • How different characterization tools support decision-making
  • Technical impracticability waivers in fractured rock environments
  • Lessons learned: What didn’t work and why?

Abstracts must be submitted in sentence form and without bullet points by Sunday, March 22, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. ET.
