Sectors in all industrialized nations are confronted with remediation challenges of varying scopes and natures. That, coupled with the daunting undertaking of addressing known hazards and contaminants along with the concepts of yet-to-be identified and regulated constituents, proves challenging for even the most responsible entities. How and where do good science, responsible regulations, and reasonable expectations intersect in the public’s best interest?
This symposium is designed to address emerging contaminants, the large groundwater plumes they often create, and their relevance to our drinking water supplies.
Intended to be a comprehensive in approach, this symposium will explore the rapidly evolving public issue from the perspective of sharing the good science that is available, best practices for short-term situational management when drinking water is affected, and developing appropriate longer-term solutions for the evaluation and restoration of impacted groundwater.
Stakeholders, including but not limited to water suppliers, industry, and regulators, can collaborate to find real solutions commensurate with the risk, while sorting through the surge of ideas brought to the market to identify ones that have real merit.
