The author will present a brief background of NGWA's Developing Countries Interest Group. Through this group's members, the need for standards applicable to wells and their appurtenances for situations in developing countries was identified. The standards would facilitate the construction of better quality long term water supplies for the health and safety of those using wells for their drinking water, and for the protection of the ground water resource and the safety of those constructing the ground water supplies. The standards are intended to be a tool with multiple applications, including: education, compliance, field construction guidance. The author will review the ongoing efforts toward creating the well standards document and will present a detailed review of the standards as drafted to date. Comments and discussion will be welcomed.
