Implementing environmental projects in Latin America is simultaneously rewarding and challenging. Working in the region presents numerous unexpected and unique opportunities such as attempting to import equipment in non-metric units into Argentina, finding a hollow-stem auger rig in Ecuador, responding to concerns from local residents, and meeting U.S. consulting industry standards using locally-available equipment and laboratories. However, the opportunity to learn from local consultants who have limited budgets also provides unique and rewarding perspectives on how to complete projects successfully. This presentation will provide recent examples of challenges and solutions encountered by the authors while working in Latin America.
