Ground Water in Developing Countries: Challenges and Opportunities I
The goal of this session is to bring together hydrogeologists working in developing countries to present papers on a broad range of topics, including local- to-regional scale ground water resource evaluation, potential effects of climate change on ground water supply, ground water quality studies, and the development/application of new techniques with a special emphasis on sustainable solutions. We seek presenters from universities, nongovernmental and private voluntary organizations, consulting firms, and both local and federal government agencies. We would like to hear about research efforts from around the world that will educate us about meeting water resource challenges while advancing us toward the United Nations' millennium goal of ensuring environmentally sustainable access to safe drinking water. We plan to end the session with a discussion on the future coordination of resources and the possible formation of a consortium between these groups in order to identify future collaborative possibilities and synergies.
