Data and Information for Decision-Making: More Important Than Ever

Scientific data and information have always been important for ground water management decision-making. Increasing competition for water and climate change elevate the importance of having timely, actionable information based upon sound data. How much ground water do we have? How are ground water levels or quality changing over time? Where will the water come from for new homes and businesses in the future? How are ground water monitoring dollars being maximized and leveraged to answer these questions? Presentations represent monitoring network design considerations; monitoring techniques and tools; integrating quality/quantity or local/regional/state programs; data management and access; decision support systems; garnering public and policymaker support for ground water monitoring programs; and monitoring programs associated with the Subcommittee on Ground Water of the Federal Advisory Committee on Water Information.
