Application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to Ground Water Challenges

Tuesday, April 13, 2010: 4:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.
Continental A (Westin Tabor Center, Denver)
The real estate industrys adage location, location, location holds true for ground water geologists, engineers, and contractors. Virtually all groundwater projects require accurate location-based data sets and related tables of data. As a maturing technology, geographic information systems (GIS) software is widely employed by the groundwater community to streamline the collection, processing, analysis, and presentation of spatial data. In addition, the recent advent of web-based mapping, Web services, open-source GIS software, and mobile applications is bringing the benefits of GIS to an increasing number of groundwater project stakeholders. The presenters of this session share: • Case studies and cutting-edge applications that highlight the innovative application of GIS and Web services • Challenges in ground water modeling • Surface water/ground water interaction • Well site selection • Water administration • Water quality and sampling • A wide variety of other groundwater topics.
