Constructing Rain Gardens and Bioswales: New Tools for Sustainable Site Development

Constellation E (Hyatt Regency Baltimore on the Inner Harbor)
Tom Barrett, Green Water Infrastructure;

Topic: Constructing Rain Gardens and Bioswales: New Tools for Sustainable Site Development

In this presentation, Mr. Barrett will educate participants on the differences between rain gardens and bioswales, and will discuss how they can both protect, restore, and mimic the natural water cycle. Tom will also discuss how these structures can help develop a natural approach to water efficiency, and help to dramatically reduce storm water issues.  Stormwater is the leading cause of water pollution in the United States.

“The American Society for Civil Engineers gave the United States’ water systems a grade of ‘D-,’ the lowest of any America infrastructure,” said Barrett. “Through increased use of rain gardens and bioswales, we can improve our water systems and create a better environment for plants, animals and people.”
