Glass Bead Filter Packs in Water Wells for Higher Efficiency and Lower O&M Costs
Glass Bead Filter Packs in Water Wells for Higher Efficiency and Lower O&M Costs

The selection of poor quality natural sand and gravel filter pack media for water supply wells can lead to insufficient hydraulics, increased well clogging, higher electrical energy demand, reduced life-cycle, and increased Operations & Maintenance costs.
Comparative laboratory and field tests proved the superiority of glass beads in physical, chemical, hydrological and economic terms in Europe and the United States.
Utilization of glass beads as a filter pack media reduces the growth potential of biofilm and adsorption of iron and manganese oxides, creates consistent higher specific capacity over time, and effective porosity and permeability is retained during long-term operations. Based on these findings, we believe aquifer storage and recovery wells would benefit from these enhancement since these dual purpose systems inject and pump resources directly into aquifers.
