Texas A&M Water Conservation and Technology Center – Regional Water Conservation Program

Presented on Tuesday, April 30, 2013
Calvin Finch, Dr, Water Conservation & Technology Center, Texas A&M San Antonio, San Antonio, TX

The Texas A&M Water Conservation and Technology Center is a newly created part of Texas A&M University to focus and coordinate the resources of the university to help make the Texas Water Plan a reality.

Texas is among the fastest growing and economically strongest states. To maintain that enviable situation, Texas needs to address its future water challenges. The WCTC will help meet that challenge.

One of the initial projects of the WCTC is the Edwards Aquifer Regional Conservation Program, an effort to export portions of the award-winning San Antonio Conservation Program to the rest of the Edwards Aquifer Region. The EA Regional Conservation Program is one of the activities included in the EA Habitat Conservation Plan. The EAHCP is a recent agreement among Edwards Aquifer stakeholders to manage the Edwards Aquifer for water use and protection of the endangered species.

This presentation will describe the unique program developed and implemented by the Texas A&M WCTC to conserve 20,000 acre ft of water in five years as part of the Edwards Aquifer Habitat Conservation Plan.
