Geophysical Technology for Ground Water Resource Evaluation - Topical Session, 3 CEPs
Geophysical technology can be used to characterize the structure and physical properties of aquifer systems on local and regional scales. This two-part, half-day session will provide an overview of the use of geophysical technology in the development of hydrogeologic conceptual models and evaluating ground water resources. The first part will focus on the principles and general applications of the following technologies: (1) electrical methods, (2) electromagnetic methods, (3) ground-penetrating radar, (4) reflection and refraction seismology, (5) gravity, and (6) borehole geophysics methods. The second part will focus on case studies demonstrating the used of geophysical technology for: (1) geologic, hydrostratigraphic, and basin mapping, (2) aquifer recharge and storage planning, (3) characterizing karst aquifers, and (4) characterizing fractured aquifer systems.
