Social Media and the Internet as a Way to Communicate with Private Well Owners

As it becomes more critical today to properly manage and maintain unregulated private wells, reaching out on a large scale to well owners becomes imperative. The job of sharing information, technical assistance, resources, and common experiences is a perfect fit for the Internet and social media. This is especially true given the diversity, disparity, and geographical/environmental differences of well owners.

This presentation explores various ways online communications can be used to create a “global well water village” where well owners can learn, share, and contribute knowledge and data. Success is measured by visitation, usage, and participation in sharing experiences and numbers. The end result is being involved in the process of ensuring well water continues to be sustainable, reliable, and predictable.

The presentation focuses on one example of an online community recently launched in northern California which provides well owners, service providers, and agencies an opportunity to exchange information, take lessons in well water subjects, learn what and how to track well performance, and keep abreast of the changing dynamics of well water management.
