Introduction to Well Asset Management: Not Just for Utility Water Supply

Tuesday, December 5, 2017: 10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m.
207 AB (Music City Center)
For groundwater-source water facilities, wells are a distinctive part of a total engineered system, in close contact with a complex nonengineered "wild" environment, and featuring large surface areas.

Well deficiencies can be hard to detect in a timely fashion, but current or potential issues can be tracked with available methods, permitting preventive maintenance actions.

Like other engineered systems,  a total life-cycle asset management program for “wild” wells involves quality planning, construction, baseline  documentation of performance and condition, and tracking to establish trends to make proactive operational decisions over time.

This presentation will focus on:

  • Some challenges that wells face
  • Optimizing life-cycle cost management
  • Maintenance monitoring
  • Integrating the “wild” wellfield into your total asset management program
  • The value of asset management of wells for any size system or well use classifications, and especially small systems, with insufficient financial buffers for major service or capital replacement, and systems remote from advanced services.
