Heller-Aller pumps began in 1886 and are now made by Hitzer Inc. Berne, Indiana 260-589-8536, www.hitzer.com. The deep and shallow well pumps a can be attached to a windmill or pumped by hand. They can also be adapted to some existing wells for a backup during power outages. They are workhorses built to last with the same pump being used as the only water source on Amish farms for 50 plus years.
