Groundwater Industry Legislative Update and Current Issues

2018 has been a year of many positive achievements for the groundwater industry.  This workshop will provide updates on those legislative and regulatory achievements in addition to other national proposals that could impact the water well market and all groundwater professionals. Learn how you can help shape groundwater policy in 2019.

Lauren Schapker
National Ground Water Association, Westerville, OH
Lauren Schapker started with NGWA in November 2014 as the director of government affairs. Prior to joining the Association, she served as director of government and political affairs for the Portland Cement Association and a senior policy advisor for Xenophon Strategies, a firm which provides government relations and public affairs services. Schapker holds a B.S. in finance and an M.A. in political science from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

Margaret Martens
Water Systems Council
Margaret Martens is Executive Director of the Water Systems Council (WSC), a national nonprofit organization solely focused on household wells and small water well systems. In addition, she serves as Program Director for the Water Well Trust, the only national nonprofit helping Americans get access to a clean, safe water supply. Martens has over 30 years of nonprofit experience. Prior to joining WSC in 2010, Martens was Event Manager for the Town of Davidson, NC and Project Manager for Downtown Davidson Inc. She is the co-founder of two nonprofit organizations in the Charlotte, NC area, including the HAMMERS Program for the Davidson Housing Coalition, which provides home repair services for low-income residents. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Davidson Housing Coalition. Martens is a graduate of Arizona State University.
