Recognizing and understanding stream-aquifer interactions requires knowledge of groundwater flow paths and their linkages to streams, rates of exchange between stream and groundwater systems, and the mechanisms that generate spatial and temporal variations during these processes. This session focuses on but is not limited to interpretive studies that further the understanding of physical and chemical techniques for identifying and quantifying groundwater flux to and from streams, use of groundwater models to better understand the effects of reduced stream flow as a result of groundwater pumping near streams, and understanding stream-aquifer interactions surrounding agricultural land use and its associated effects on stream water quality.
