FloPy: Python Package for Creating, Running, and Post-Processing MODFLOW-Based Models

Tuesday, December 5, 2017: 3:45 p.m.-5:15 p.m.
101 D (Music City Center)
The purpose of this Extended Learning Session is to present an introduction to Python and the pre- and post-processing capabilities of FloPy.  FloPy is a Python package for creating, running, and post-processing MODFLOW-based models. FloPy includes support for MODFLOW-2000, MODFLOW-2005, MODFLOW-NWT, MODFLOW-USG, and MODFLOW-LGR. Other supported MODFLOW-based models include MODPATH (version 6), MT3D, MT3D-USG, and SEAWAT.  This session will consist of a series of short lectures with accompanying demonstrations of problems designed to demonstrate the functionality of FloPy.  The learning session will be taught by core members of the FloPy development team.  Topics will include:

  • Getting started with python
  • Building and post-processing simple MODFLOW models
  • Developing time varying boundary packages
  • Developing advanced packages (for example, UPW, NWT, SFR, MNW, and LAK Packages)
  • Loading existing models
  • Advanced post-processing
  • Particle tracking with MODPATH
  • Transport modeling
  • Automating model runs
