Greg Bixler, Ph.D., PE, is a cofounder and CEO of Design Outreach (DO), as well as a senior lecturer at Ohio State University, where he teaches appropriate technology for developing countries. After meeting Abe Wright through the NGO Water for Good in 2007, the pair cofounded DO, which is currently comprised of nearly 75 volunteers and 12 partner organizations eager to create sustainable solutions to problems facing people in developing countries.
Bixler discovered this life calling after a mission trip to Central Asia in 2006 where he witnessed extreme poverty for the first time and knew he could help people through creative problem-solving. His humanitarian engineering endeavors have lead him to Haiti, Honduras, El Salvador, Malawi, Zambia, Kenya, Ethiopia, and the Central African Republic —while serving as CEO of DO, resident director for the OSU service learning program, and advisor for the OSU student chapter of Engineers Without Borders.
Having started his engineering career at Battelle Memorial Institute, Bixler returned to OSU to complete his doctoral research in mechanical engineering.
