The recent data breaches at Equifax and numerous retailers should make protecting business computer systems and personal data paramount for everyone. Small- and medium-sized business computer systems are just as, if not more so, vulnerable to hackers as large corporations.

Brian Garland, CPA, supervisor and one of Rea & Associates audit IT specialists, has seven years of accounting experience and two years of IT auditing experience. He is a member of the assurance group at Rea & Associates, performing assurance services for clients through audit, review, and compilations engagements. Garland has also recently passed the Certified Information Systems Auditor exam.

Garland's experience with IT risk assessments and reviews includes, but is not limited to organizational governance assessments and review of applicable compliance requirements; IT hardware/software acquisition, analysis of change management process; network infrastructure/hardware configuration and security review; lifecycle analysis of hardware and operating systems of services/workstations; backup and recovery, disaster recovery/business continuity planning; security rights of physical and logical access to critical business assets; and cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and best practices.​
