A National Valuation of Groundwater: The Australian Experience

Presented on Tuesday, April 15, 2014

Learn about the key role groundwater, a valuable and potentially renewable resource, plays in Australia’s economy in this half-hour online brown bag session.

Australia’s reserves of groundwater help earn the nation a steady $34 billion a year from mining, food production, and manufacturing, according to a report by Deloitte Access Economics. Australia’s experience and lessons learned offer new perspectives to the importance of the resource elsewhere in the world.

The report was commissioned by the National Centre for Groundwater Research and Training, an Australian government initiative supported by the Australian Research Council and the National Water Commission. The NCGRT brings together nearly 200 Australian and international researchers from 12 universities and 10 industry partners to advance the understanding of Australia’s groundwater resources, as well as to train the next generation of groundwater researchers.
