Hydraulic fracturing has captured headlines in areas where it is being used for unconventional oil and gas resources and presents challenges for protection and management of groundwater resources. This technical session addresses aspects related to groundwater and hydraulic fracturing for oil and gas development, including best practices for well construction, regulatory and procedural safeguards to prevent groundwater contamination, migration and abatement of stray gases such as methane, water use, treatment and disposal systems, and monitoring strategies.
