Scientific Research and Technical Assistance to Private Well Owners Part 2

Presented on Thursday, December 5, 2013

More than 43 million people—about 15 percent of the US population—rely on domestic wells as their source of drinking water. Individual homeowners are responsible for maintaining these well systems and for monitoring water quality. This session brings together groundwater and health professionals and policymakers to discuss the latest scientific research and how it can be translated to technical assistance to private well owners. Presentations address baseline water quality, well construction, well maintenance, water testing and treatment, source area protection, problematic contaminants, training and technical assistance programs, use of social media, state and local policies and regulations, guidelines for on-site wastewater systems, drought planning and communication, and approaches in developing countries.
