Continuous Improvements in Low-Flow Sampling Techniques, Equipment and Software
Wednesday, December 6, 2017: 2:30 p.m.-3:00 p.m.
Activity Area A- Exhibit Hall (Music City Center)
Low-flow groundwater sampling has been accepted by regulatory agencies in the US and other countries since the early 1990's and is required by SOP at sites throughout most of the US. Established protocols prescribe purging wells at low rates that minimize water level drawdown to enable collection of samples that are more representative of formation water. While sampling protocols remain relatively unchanged, smart devices, digital meters and managed workflow apps are revolutionizing the technique, producing more predictable, repeatable and efficient results, and reducing human error to insure better compliance and sampling program performance.
Attendees will receive an overview of regulatory guidelines for low-flow sampling including typical stabilization criteria and calculations. The workshop will cover water quality parameters and methods, including EPA-approved optical DO methods. Additionally, the workshop will discuss calibration and troubleshooting tips, and demonstrate how an Android app, used with a smartphone and digital meter, streamlines data collection, sampling and reporting.
