Water Well Rehabilitation and Time Based Preventive Maintenance
N115/116 (Las Vegas Convention Center)
The art of cleaning water wells requires a good understanding of what causes water well problems. The groundwater industry has historically operated wells to failure before doing any rehabilitation and/or maintenance cleanings. Monitoring specific capacity and waiting until a certain percentage drop in specific capacity is why the groundwater industry has operated well until the clogging material are significant and hardened making them more difficult to remove. Because monitoring specific capacity does not pick up reduced pore volume until advanced clogging has occurred it is important to recognize the importance of time based rehabilitation and maintenance. Managing and removing deposited material when it is soft and not extensive allows peak efficiency and more consistent water quality to be achieved.
