Airborne Electromagnetic Surveys for Hydrogeologic Frameworks and Groundwater Management

Presented on Thursday, December 6, 2018

The use of Airborne Electromagnetic (AEM) surveys has been used effectively to map the hydrogeology of groundwater systems. The low cost and excellent detail when compared to bore-holes or ground-based geophysics provided by these surveys has been a boon to evaluating groundwater for supply, remediation, groundwater/surface water interaction and groundwater management planning. An introduction to the use of AEM surveys and how they work including planning, processing, inversion, and interpretation will start the workshop. Then case study results from projects in the United States and their use in refining groundwater hydrogeologic frameworks will be provided. These studies include saltwater intrusion of municipal supply areas, development of Managed Aquifer recharge sites, improving groundwater models by additional of high resolution framework data, and understanding groundwater and surface water interaction.

This workshop is designed for all operators involved in groundwater management and policy development and resource investigations including optimized placement of production wells.
