The demand for additional water supply in many areas is resulting in increased attention to deep (1000+ feet) aquifers which have been previously unutilized or little utilized. Although many of these aquifers have the potential to be prolific producers, they often offer groundwater of lower quality than other available sources. With water shortfalls predicted in many regions of the world, it is likely that significant additional analysis of deep aquifers will be required. With this in mind, the NGWA Deep Ground Water Investigations Interest Group (DGWIIG) DGWIIG presents abstracts which describe: • Water supply potential of deep bedrock aquifers • Challenges associated with drilling and understanding the hydrogeologic characteristics of these aquifers • Challenges associated with development of these aquifers • Water treatment issues, including brine disposal • Regulatory issues associated with deep bedrock aquifer development.
