This broadly focused session will provide a forum for exchange of information on the wide spectrum of technical advances and lessons learned in the science and practice of groundwater hydrology. Abstracts can range from research projects to case studies to management and policy challenges.
-Shlomo P. Neuman will be the keynote speaker at the Advances in Groundwater Science and Practice technical session. The title of his presentation is “Can Flow and Transport in Heterogeneous Media be Resolved Using Traditional Approaches? I Think Not"

Daniel Stephens is the principal hydrologist at Daniel B. Stephens & Associates. He received his B.S. in geological science from Pennsylvania State University, an M.S. in hydrology from Stanford University, and a Ph.D. in hydrology from the University of Arizona. Stephens is an internationally recognized hydrogeologist, specializing in vadose zone processes. He is the author of Vadose Zone Hydrology.

Dr. William M. Alley is Director of Science and Technology for the National Ground Water Association. Previously, he served as Chief, Office of Groundwater for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) for almost two decades. Dr. Alley has published over 100 scientific publications, and most recently co-authored with his wife, Rosemarie, High and Dry: Meeting the Challenges of the World’s Growing Dependence on Groundwater. Among other awards, Dr. Alley received the USGS Shoemaker Award for Lifetime Achievement in Communication and the Meritorious Presidential Rank Award. He holds a B.S. in Geological Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines, an M.S. in Hydrogeology from Stanford University, and a Ph.D. from the Johns Hopkins University.

Theresa Jehn-Dellaport brings more than 26 years of experience in groundwater and surface water evaluations, feasibility studies, large municipal water well design, aquifer storage and recovery, surface and groundwater rights studies, plans for augmentation, substitute supply plans, surface water hydrology studies, aquifer pump test analysis, monitoring well and water well design, construction and testing, and specification preparation for large municipal and domestic water supply wells. She also has extensive experience in directing large multidisciplinary technical staff, subcontractors, and consultants.
